Pipeline Trading Systems (www.pipelinetrading.com) is a rapidly growing electronic marketplace for large block institutional equities trading. * The primary responsibility of the Production Support Engineer will be to provide technical support for trading in the European markets during an overnight shift. This will involve helping the customer support staff resolve server issues, attentive system monitoring, and troubleshooting daemon issues and connectivity glitches.
Job Functions:
The core functions of the Production Support Engineer are to:
* monitor the Pipeline trading system and network in real-time as it supports European trading
* troubleshoot related problems with staff and customers
* support/configure the market data infrastructure
* document procedures for network configuration and resolution, and prepare reports of system issues
* assist in ongoing implementation of network monitoring, disaster recovery preparation, and associated support/diagnosis systems
As part of these core functions the Engineer will need to:
* configure and monitor FIX sessions to customers and help resolve any connectivity problems
* analyze and report on logs of trading activity
* discover and resolve persistent system inefficiencies
* track state of network hardware over time
* test system performance in order to predict future performance issues
* monitor state of network devices and occasionally assist in configuration of routers, switches, and firewalls
Job Requirements:
The following are requirements for the position:
* Honesty and professionalism
* Knowledge of networking concepts and trouble-shooting skills
* Experience with Unix/Linux environments, particularly Red Hat Linux
* Experience troubleshooting trading system order problems
* Experience with finance and associated concepts
* Ability to learn new / proprietary network and software systems
* Familiarity with shell scripting and Linux service operation
* Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills in a demanding environment
* Strong follow-through and initiative-taking ability
* Good communication and documentation skills, written and oral
* Experience with Windows environments
* College Degree
* 3 years minimum of related experience
* Desire to work overnight shift
Experience in any of the following is a plus:
* Advanced scripting and coding
* Experience with network-monitoring software and procedures
* Familiarity with the FIX and SNMP protocols
* Documentation experience
* Experience with trading and order management systems
* Knowledge of market data transmission structure in financial systems from a network operations perspective
* Ad hoc diagnosis of application problems through analysis of underlying source code, crash dumps, and stack traces
* Ability to troubleshoot networking issues on Cisco routers, firewalls, switches, and on IPSec VPNs
* Experience reading network sniffer traces
* Experience troubleshooting telecommunication issues
